BPP Education Group have acquired over 80,000 sq ft. at Portsoken Street to accommodate the substantial growth of their School of Business and delivery of its Profession Education (PQ) programmes.

Jaggard Macland are pleased to have led the search and advised upon the lease terms and legal agreements for global education company BPP Holdings Ltd on this major relocation in the City of London.

BPP already wished to expand their teaching facilities in central London but when an existing landlord served notice on them to vacant their premises on London Wall, an urgent search was required for a new property. This is not straightforward for educational providers as many buildings are not suitable or do not have the appropriate planning consent.

The search identified several potential properties that were carefully analysed before One Portsoken Street was selected.

Simon Harper at Jaggard Macland worked closely with Mark Griffiths (COO) and Maggie Parker (Head of Property) at BPP over many months to finalise the lease terms and conclude the legal agreements. Using his 20 years of experience in acquiring premises for tenants, Simon was able to structure an Agreement for Lease which secured the change of planning use and fitting out of the ground to 3rd floors to create a new HQ, over 50 classrooms and other teaching facilities.

Planning consent was received at the end of 2021 and contractors are now onsite with the centre due to open to BPP’s students from this summer.

Mark Griffiths, Chief Operating Officer at BPP commented,

“Simon’s involvement, advice and expertise in this process has been instrumental throughout this transaction. He worked closely with us throughout all aspects of the project, and his knowledge of the education sector and its unique requirements allowed us to focus our search on a limited number of properties. The scale of this deal shows our intent and commitment to maintain our position as one of the biggest education providers in the market, whilst creating an innovative and engaging environment for colleagues, clients and learners alike.”
