Endurance, Elevation and Lots of Blisters: Our Surveyors Take on 100km for Charity
Steve Macdermott and Greg Rowland, two of our partners, are taking on Race to the Stones - the UK's biggest ultramarathon this July.
Endurance. Training. Patience. Hard work. Strength. It reads a bit like a job description for a surveyor (and we wouldn’t disagree), but in this case, we’re talking about something slightly different: a 100km ultramarathon.
Our crazy duo Steve Macdermott and Greg Rowland, known around the office for their energy and tenacity, are taking on Race to the Stones, the UK’s biggest ultramarathon. Taking place over the weekend of 12th-13th July, they will tackle the historic Ridgeway Trail, covering a full 100km over two gruelling days.
They're undertaking this incredible challenge in support of two fantastic causes: Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK and we're very proud of them.
The Training (and Suffering) Begins...
As you’d expect, getting ready to walk 100km in two days takes a bit more prep than your average lunchtime stroll. The team have done their first night walk and recently clocked a 60km training walk through the beautiful but brutal Chiltern Hills. The route included steep climbs through Coombe Hill, Wendover Woods, and several moments of quiet reflection (read: regretting everything!).
One bright spot, aside from the views, was passing Ellesborough Golf Club, where we’re proud corporate sponsors of hole 16. Naturally, they didn’t stop for a round.
Why They're Doing It
Steve and Greg are taking on this challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK, two charities that do life-changing work.
